Introduction |

English: Angels are among the unseen creations of Allah, and belief in them is one of the six pillars of faith in Islam. Muslims believe that angels obey Allah, carry out His commands, and perform duties assigned to them. Although angels are invisible to human beings in their normal state, the Qur’an and authentic Sunnah teach Muslims about their existence and some of their roles.

1. What Are Angels? |

English: According to Islam, Allah created angels from light, as stated in an authentic narration of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). They are obedient servants of Allah who do not disobey His commands in carrying out their duties. Muslims believe in angels even though they cannot ordinarily see them.

2. Jibril (Gabriel) |

English: Jibril is the angel who conveyed Allah’s revelations to His prophets, including the Qur’an to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He is one of the greatest angels and played a central role in delivering Allah’s messages to humanity.

3. Mikail (Michael) |

English: Mikail is named in the Qur’an and is traditionally associated in Islamic teachings with matters of provision and rain by Allah’s command. He is one of the angels whom Muslims are required to believe in, although the Qur’an does not provide extensive details about his specific duties.

English: Israfil is widely identified in Islamic tradition as the angel who will blow the Trumpet at the end of the world by Allah’s command. This event will mark the beginning of the events associated with the Resurrection and the Day of Judgment.

5. Malak al-Mawt (The Angel of Death) |

English: The Angel of Death is responsible for taking the souls of people at the time of death by Allah’s command. The Qur’an refers to him as the Angel of Death, but it does not give him the personal name commonly used in some popular traditions.

6. Munkar and Nakir |

English: Munkar and Nakir are named in Islamic hadith traditions as the angels who question a person in the grave about their Lord, religion, and prophet. Their questioning is part of the Islamic belief in the life of the grave, which is among the matters of the unseen.

7. The Recording Angels |

English: Muslims believe that angels record people’s deeds, including their good and bad actions, by Allah’s command. The Qur’an refers to noble recording angels who observe and record what people do.

8. Malik, the Keeper of Hell |

English: Malik is named in the Qur’an as the keeper of Hell, and he is mentioned in the context of the people of Hell addressing him. His role reminds Muslims of the reality of the Hereafter and the importance of faith and righteous deeds.

9. Harut and Marut |

English: Harut and Marut are two angels mentioned in Surah Al-Baqarah in connection with a test involving magic in Babylon. The Qur’an explains that they warned people not to disbelieve, and their story should be understood carefully without relying on unsupported tales.

10. Ridwan (The Keeper of Paradise) |

English: Ridwan is commonly known in Islamic tradition as the keeper of Paradise, where Allah will reward the believers in the Hereafter. However, the name Ridwan is not established as the keeper of Paradise in the Qur’an or in an authentic hadith, so it is more accurate to describe this identification as a popular traditional belief.

Conclusion |

English: Belief in angels reminds Muslims that Allah’s creation includes realities beyond what human beings can see. The angels carry out different duties by Allah’s command, and learning about them strengthens a Muslim’s understanding of faith and the unseen. Muslims should rely on the Qur’an and authentic Sunnah when learning about angels and avoid treating unsupported stories as established facts.
